To be buried in this is a capsule collection inspired by the Yiayias (the local word for grandmothers) in Cyprus.
The collection began as a study into an unfamiliar culture and its people. I travelled to Cyprus, and took thousands of photographs of the island and its cultural artifacts, and met with local Yiayias to listen about their lives and understand the reasoning behind their rigid all-black uniform. Surprisingly, the resulting collection is far more colourful and perhaps can be seen as a celebration of my muse and the Cypriot cultural history.
To be buried in this is essentially a bricolage of my entire body of research into the Cypriot Yiayias and their culture, with an emphasis on creating innovative designs.
